Despite getting George Pickens to sign the one-year franchise tag tender, the Dallas Cowboys seemingly still face some obstacles when it comes to the star wide receiver.
The first being whether or not Pickens will show up to the team’s mandatory minicamp next week after being a no-show for the team’s OTAs.
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer and WR CeeDee Lamb are convinced Pickens will be at the facility when he’s supposed to be, but given his track record of defying authority when he was with the Pittsburgh Steelers, others aren’t so sure.
And because of that, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio had a stern warning for Pickens about his attendance next week.
“Pickens embracing the one-year deal and hoping to show that the three years in Pittsburgh were the aberration, the trend is what he did last year in Dallas,” Florio said. “And if that’s the case, he needs to be at next week’s mandatory minicamp because if he doesn’t show up after he signed the tender and put himself under contract, people are going to say, ‘What’s this guy really up to? Why would he give up $100,000 in fines when all he had to do was not accept the tender until after the mandatory minicamp?’

“So, that’s the big question for the Cowboys, and the answer I think is going to help reveal where George Pickens’ current attitude is at. Is he ready to do everything necessary to remove any concerns and lay a foundation for a big contract in the future, or are there still questions and concerns that could make a team leery about eventually giving him the kind of contract that he already arguably deserves.”
Until Pickens actually shows up, there will likely be some concern about whether or not he holds out or tries to force a trade.
However, all reports from around the team have indicated that Dallas has no intention of trading Pickens, and Pickens is committed to playing the 2026 season out in hopes of landing a lucrative contract extension the following season.
